Getting to Kylesmorar

Mallaig is the first destination to reach, after which guests can continue their journey on foot or aboard the MV Western Isles ferry. The ferry goes to Tarbet which is part of the estate to which the Kylesmorar Cottages belong.

By Train to Mallaig

Arrive by train on the famous "West Highland Line" to Mallaig village from any mainline station; this includes the sleeper to Fort William. The train station is a two minute walk from Mallaig pier, where the ferry leaves for Kylesmorar. Check the train times at www.thetrainline.com.

There is also the option of arriving by steam, aboard 'The Jacobite', from Fort William.

By Car to Mallaig

Head to Fort William on the A82 (42 miles) and then follow the "Road to the Isles" (A830) through Glenfinnan to Mallaig. Check your route here. There is free long term car parking at Mallaig.

The Ferry Trip

Guests are reminded to make arrangements with Bruce Watt, at the Western Isles Ferry office, for onward travel from Mallaig to Kylesmorar prior to arrival. He runs a scheduled trip from Mallaig to Tarbet. In April and October he sails on Mondays and Fridays and from May-September he sails on every week day (Mondays-Fridays). See http://www.knoydart-ferry.co.uk/ for details and any changes in timetables.

On Foot

It is possible to walk into Kylesmorar from Bracorina on the shore of Loch Morar. This is a 2-3 hour walk for the keen walker; over remote ground. The Estate's boats are all moored at Tarbet. For the final stage of your trip from Tarbet to Kylesmorar (approximately 1 mile) you may either walk over the rough path or be transferred by an Estate boat.

In the event of the MV Western Isles not running for any reason, the Estate will endeavour to collect/return you at Mallaig. Guests are reminded that weather conditions can occasionally make it impossible to make the trip to/from Kylesmorar other than on foot. In such circumstances, the Estate will endeavour to make other travel or accommodation arrangements on your behalf but cannot be held liable for any expense, loss or cancellation beyond the rental paid.
