Local Information & Things to Do
While the majority of guests simply come to enjoy the peace and tranquility of Kylesmorar, the “Road to the Isles” website (link to http://www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk/) provides a wealth of information about Mallaig and Knoydart and the wider area and links to local websites including:

  • Walking routes
  • Chartered boat trips
  • Stalking & Fishing may be available locally – please enquire for details.
  • Weather permitting and by prior arrangement, the Estate boat may be available to take you to Inverie on Knoydart for a day's walking or a visit to the nearest but most remote Old Forge Pub & Restaurant.

Getting to Kylesmorar
Arrive by train on the famous "West Highland Line" to Mallaig village from any mainline station including the sleeper to Fort William. The train station is a two minute walk from Mallaig pier. Check times at www.thetrainline.com.

Alternatively, head to Fort William on the A82 (42 miles) and then follow the “Road to the Isles” (A830) through Glenfinnan to Mallaig. Check your route here. There is free long term car parking at Mallaig.

Guests are reminded to make prior arrangements with Bruce Watt (who runs a daily scheduled ferry trip on MV Western Isles to Tarbet) for onward travel from Mallaig to Kylesmorar. See http://www.knoydart-ferry.co.uk/ for details. It is possible to walk into Kylesmorar from Bracorina on the shore of Loch Morar however it is at least a 4 hour walk over remote ground. For the final stage of your trip from Tarbet to Kylesmorar (approximately 1 mile) you may either walk over the rough path or be transferred by Estate boat.

In the event of MV Western Isles not running for any reason, the Estate will endeavour to collect/return you at Mallaig however guests are reminded that weather conditions can occasionally make it impossible to make the trip to/from Kylesmorar other than on foot.  In such circumstances, the Estate will endeavour to make other travel or accommodation arrangements on your behalf but cannot be held liable for any expense, loss or cancellation beyond the rental paid.
